The unique JEWEL septic tank conversion unit can be installed after an existing septic tank to produce the same effluent quality as a standard packaged treatment system. The JEWEL is ideal as a retro-fit for an existing septic tank, and a full upgrade can be achieved with minimal disturbance onsite and minimal cost. The JEWEL septic tank conversion unit can convert a septic tank into a full three stage sewage treatment plant using a mere 60 watts of power.

The JEWEL septic tank conversion unit connects to a septic tank outlet and is capable of dealing with effluent from a single house application up to a 70 person application. The JEWEL effluent quality meets the new EU wastewater standards. The European Certification for septic tank conversion units (EN 12566-7) is currently in draft format and will be published imminently. The effluent from the JEWEL complies with all current EU requirements.

  • The JEWEL tank is manufactured from GRP (glass reinforced plastic) which has improved frost and corrosion resistance properties.
  • The Jewel has no restrictions with regard to items flushed down the toilet (make-up removal pads, tampons, cotton buds, nappy liners) which can affect the operation of many other systems. This makes the JEWEL the perfect choice for the upgrade of an existing septic tank.

The JEWEL septic tank conversion unit works by blowing air via a small air compressor through the media in its first chamber, the Biozone. This aerates the sewage and causes aerobic bacteria to grow on the media which then digest the organic matter. As sewage flows into the Biozone from the septic tank, cleaned wastewater flows from the Biozone to the final settlement chamber in the JEWEL septic tank conversion unit prior to discharge through the outlet pipe.

How It Works

1. Effluent from the Septic Tank enters the media filled first stage of the unit.
2. Air is then blown into this chamber by the low wattage compressor.
3. Aerobic bacteria establish themselves in the first chamber and breakdown the septic tank effluent more efficiently.
4. The treated effluent is then passed into the second chamber where any remaining suspended solids are allowed to settle out and the final treated effluent is discharged.
